Troubleshooting DSL - Router

Example with Linksys Router

The first thing you will want to try is to shut down all the computers you have running on the DSL.

You then want to turn off any DSL equipment, such as the DSL Modem, Router, Switch, or anything else on the network, excluding printers.

Next, Power the DSL Modem back on and make sure that you have a solid green Ready light if you have a Westell Wirespeed modem, or a solid green DSL light if you have a different kind.

Once the DSL modem is up, power up any networking equipment you have and THEN power on your computers, and try the internet again.  It is VERY important that you follow these steps in the order listed here.

You should also ensure that the individual computers have been tested and repaired, as detailed >Here< Troubleshooting

If the internet still doesn't work, refer to the information below for more help.

LINKSYS ROUTER TROUBLESHOOTING

If the internet still doesn't work then, open up your web browser.

Clear everything from the address bar and put in

http://192.168.1.1

and then click the GO button or hit the enter key on your keyboard.

You should get a login box similar to the one below, leave the username box blank, enter admin for the password. (These are default settings for most Linksys routers.) and then click on OK. If it won't take your password, try resetting the router by holding the small reset button on the back in until the lights reset.

You then want to click on the status tab up at the top and if you scroll down you will see the WAN IP address, it should begin with either 208.44 or 10.10, you then want to click the

DHCP Release button,

you will now see all zeros for the WAN IP.

Then click the

DHCP Renew button

and you should then get a 208.44.x.x or 10.10.x.x IP address again.

Once you have a good IP address then you should be able to access the internet properly on all computers that use the router. If you don't get a good IP address even after rebooting everything several times, then please give us a call at: 1-800-541-7779 ext. 1 or local at: 419-734-6037 ext. 1 M-F 9-5
